Flat bowl with stripe design, Old imari ware
This bowl is decorated inside and outside with a circular line pattern.
The calm color of the underglaze blue and slight blotches are typical of the taste of old Imari.
The coloring of the base of the bowl is transparent, which is not bothersome and is comfortable.
There are two types of bowls with a circular line pattern, one is an Chinese "ko-sometsuke" one and the other is an Japanese Imari one, but this one can be judged as an Imari one from the height of the base and the color of the underglaze blue.
The circular line pattern was popular even in the Edo period (1603-1867), and various types of items such as buckwheat noodle cups, tea bowls, and tokkuri (sake bottle) have been handed down to the present.
It was probably Masako Shirasu and Hideo Hata who focused on them in the antique world.
Thanks to the introduction of these two, rinzain patterns are still very popular today.
Unlike the luxurious and gorgeous Imariyaki ware for the overseas, this is a casual ware made as a tool for Japanese people's daily life.
That is why I feel that even if you look at them today, they still retain a living sensibility that has not become old-fashioned.
The diameter is 17.5cm. It is a little less than 6" in size, which is easy to use for any purpose. It is just the right depth between a plate and a bowl.
It can be used for cooking and sweets. It will bring out the coolness of the coming season.
Please enjoy using it.
