I was attracted by the extended painting and composition typical of early Imari.

In the centre is a lovely chrysanthemum with a round flower in full bloom. The flowing brushstrokes, the masterful use of shading, and the elegant arabesque design that surrounds the mouth rim. The design is as comfortable as the passage of a breeze.

The base is brightly coloured, and the subdued colours of the underglaze blue are well reflected in the well-melted, lustrous finish of the glaze.

The nama-kake technique, in which glaze is applied without bisque firing, is a characteristic of early Imari ware. The technique is characterised by a soft and free early Imari style, but the quality of this early Imari is also characterized by the sharpness and dignity of the high-class wares of the time.

There are many early Imari plates, but only a few that are desirable.

This work has many charms, such as the balance and content of the painting, the colour of the underglaze blue, the firing condition, the unique small and compact base and the overall proportions.

The size is about 18 cm wide. It is easy to use, and its size is not oppressive as a decorative dish.

For those who share its lively charm and energy.

There is one silver repair each on the reverse side and a 3 cm thin nu that does not show up in the photos.

Otherwise in good condition.
