The first thing that might surprise you is its small size.
It's just over four centimeters tall, small enough to rest gently in the palm of your hand.
However, once you see it in person, you'll likely feel, "It's so small, yet so intricately carved!" The folds of the drapery are crisp and clear, and the lines flowing from the chest to the hem are incredibly delicate. The taut, well-defined sculpting characteristic of the Kamakura period is perfectly contained within this tiny statue.

The gilding is also well-preserved. Gold gleams softly in places against the darkened base. This understated brilliance quietly conveys the beauty of a bronze Buddha that has withstood the test of time.

While the back has a simple finish, the contours are clean and well-defined, clearly showing the excellent balance between the head and body. The sense of stability when viewed from the front is surely supported by this fine proportion.

We would also like to draw your attention to the lotus pedestal at its base. Though small, the lotus petals are meticulously carved, giving the entire statue a sense of firmness. The statue and base are integrated, forming a complete and finished piece.

Was it kept close as a personal devotional image?
Its size makes one want to call it a "Buddha in the palm of your hand," yet the sculptural density is truly rich. This statue allows you to quietly savor the essence of the Kamakura period, condensed within a small form.
