This is a brushed sake cup that is a convenient size and fits comfortably in your hand.
Because they were not originally intended as sake cups, brushed cups are often too large to hold in one hand and not deep enough to pour sake into, making it difficult to find the right one.
Whenever I come across something that is both suitable for sake cups and also has something interesting to offer, I try to purchase it, and this is one of those items I came across.
The white mud brush strokes stand out against the grey soil.
A thick transparent glaze is applied, creating fine crazing that adds to the scenery.
It is deep enough, and its shape fits snugly in your hand, giving it a sense of stability when you grip it.
The platform is adjusted with clay to make it stable.
There are three silver repairs on the edge, but this is the way it is made so it's nothing to worry about. Please check the photos.
It is housed in a cylindrical wooden box with a bamboo joint design. This is also a woodwork item from the Yi Dynasty. The box is well made and has a shifuku (covered lining).
The sake cup is easy to carry around and has a nice atmosphere. Take it to your favorite bar as your companion.
