We would like to introduce you to Goryeo celadon tea bowls.

The design is simple with a plain pattern on the outside and a line drawn around the inside edge.
It rises sharply from a small hill, and its mouth is slightly tapered, creating a refined shape.

It is close to olive green in color.
It has a deeper feel than the strong blue color that comes to mind when hearing about Goryeo celadon.
It is this calm color that has the charm to really bring out the flavor of tea.
We thought this would be the perfect bowl for enjoying tea in your daily life, so we decided to introduce it to you today.

Originally called a "san,"(bowl) it was a vessel for drinking tea or alcohol.
Tea and alcohol were very important on the Korean Peninsula, as evidenced by the words of a Silla Confucian scholar who said, "Tea and alcohol purify the spirit."

Tea was introduced to the Korean Peninsula during the late Silla period, and tea culture reached its peak during the Goryeo period, along with Buddhism. At that time, tea was enjoyed not only by royalty and aristocrats, but also by monks and commoners.
For this reason, many tea-related utensils were produced during the Goryeo period, and this piece was likely made among them.

It is a little large for a sake cup, but it is the perfect size to use as a tea bowl.
Of course, you can use it as a tea bowl not only for matcha, but also for other drinks such as roasted green tea.

There are small gold repairs here and there on the rim, and a few inconspicuous hairline cracks from its age.
Other than that, it is in good condition for its age, but there are no major scratches. It is about 800 years old, so there is nothing to worry about.

It must have been well-loved, as the gold was repaired with great care.
Please see photos for detailed condition.

The shifuku is made from Tanba cloth, which has a calm impression with a brown base and indigo accents.
