Sake cup, White porcelain, Old Imari ware
The gentle whiteness of the white porcelain and the unadorned appearance of this lovely soba-choko (buckwheat noodle cup).
The simple form extends gently from the base to the rim of the mouth, but the walls are thin all the way to the bottom, showing the high skill of the potter's wheel throwing.
It is also very light to handle. It is wide and deep enough to hold a large amount of sake, and can also be used as a teacup. The contrast between the light green color of Japanese green tea and the white porcelain is pleasing to the eye, and will bring you a moment of healing.
